Coming up: Digital nomads, massive buffets, endless beach volleyball, a tiny swimming pool, some pros and cons of Da Nang life, hacks on making brand-new buddies, a way to make friends with me, and Da Nang’s 5 best places to stay for solo travellers.
Best Neighbourhood: For solo travellers? It has to be Mỹ An. Read why.
Jump to: Budget | Mid-range | Luxury | Digital nomads

Da Nang, the 5th-biggest city in Vietnam:
- It’s fun
- It’s weird
- It’s on the Vietnamese coast
- It’s FULL of laptop-toting digital nomads
- … and you’re looking for the city’s best accommodations for solo travellers
So: which is Da Nang’s best neighborhood? Where will you find the most foreigners? How easy is it to access the beaches? And where can I find a hostel that isn’t full of idiots?
Well, in this guide, your backpack-loving buddies at Three Week Traveller have brought you everything you need to know from a local nomad who lives in the city. So, pack your passport and come join the party!
- I’m living in Da Nang right now
- I’ve stayed in several different Da Nang accommodations
- I’ve been living in Vietnam for large chunks of the past 6 years
… so, in short: you don’t need to call me a highly knowledgeable, cool (maybe even debonair), local genius if you don’t want to, but I won’t argue if you do.
Another note on why you should listen to us: click the accommodation links we’ve given you, and book via those links, and we make a small amount of money. If we keep making small amounts of money, we can keep running this site. And if we keep running this site, we can keep giving you from-experience expertise on traveling around the planet. What a lovely exchange.
If you choose the right accommodation, Da Nang is INCREDIBLE for solo travellers:
- There are MANY digital nomads here. So, most people want to make friends, there’s lots of solo-traveller infrastructure, arriving solo is very normal, and some accommodations are very solo-person-friendly.
- You’ll find lots of exercise groups in the city; for running, volleyball, pickleball, crossfit, and more. If you stay close to where they play, you’ll find it easy to make friends.
- Da Nang’s nightlife is VERY concentrated. Stay close to it, and you’ll find plenty of people to sit and slurp with.
- In Da Nang, there are many regular events and meetups for digital nomads and solo travellers. Stay close to those venues, and you can get involved.
- In general, most of Da Nang’s best solo-traveller accommodations are in or around the Mỹ An neighborhood. Here, you’ll find the most foreigners, the most sociable hangouts, most of the meetups, and most of the best bars and cafes. For city newbies, it’s usually the most logical place to stay.
For better or worse, most of Da Nang’s travellers are located in a VERY concentrated area.
That area is Mỹ An, which I mentioned about 7 seconds ago.
In my opinion, it would be silly for solo travellers to stay too far from here (well, unless you’re already familiar with the city, or you have friends here—or unless the accommodation you choose is particularly good for solo travellers).
So: be careful whose advice you listen to. And when I say that, what I really mean is: you should listen to ours. Lol.
Whereever you’re travelling around Vietnam or Southeast Asia, if you’re on your own you are going to need to expand your conversation pool beyond just voice notes back home to friends. We put together a quick guide on how you can make your trip a little more sociable.

Da Nang Travel Safety
As of spring/summer 2025, Vietnam continues to be regarded as a safe place to travel if travelling alone, but like any country with a diversity of personal economic circumstances, be aware of petty theft in larger cities such as Da Nang. A good resource for safety information is UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Vietnam Guidance. Hostels and backpacking accommodation are anecdotally considered safe and any cases of theft are considered a highly rare exception.
5 top places to stay in Da Nang for solo travellers
Some of these I’ve stayed in; some of these my friends have stayed in.
… but, all of them, I know pretty well.
A quick note before we get going: usually, we bring you info on public transport options for each accommodation. But on this occasion, that isn’t necessary—public transport isn’t a major part of Da Nang life. Instead, people here get around by bicycle or motorbike, or by using Grab (sort of like a Southeast Asian version of Uber).
Best budget solo traveller options in Da Nang
Here, I’ve brought you 2 places each under $15 USD (£13) per person per night.
#1: Hana Homestay Danang

Best for: meeting locals, going on bike rides, playing beach volleyball, and making friends on the beach
Solo vibe
Not quite a hostel; not quite a guesthouse. Instead, somewhere in the middle. Great if you want to easily make local and non-local friends without a dreadlocked hippy vomiting into your dorm bed.
Why stay here?
Firstly, you really won’t find any better value-for-money accommodations in Da Nang.
Although the prices are low here, you’re a three-minute walk from the city’s most central (and most popular) beach, and you’re super close to most of Da Nang’s best cafes, restaurants and bars.
… and as a nice bonus, because it’s set back from the main road, Hana Homestay is nice and quiet for sleeping (here, you won’t be woken up by a loud nightclub or some obnoxious karaoke bar—which isn’t always the case in Da Nang).
What’s around?
Head to Mỹ An beach between 6am and 10am, then wander slightly south, and you’ll find volleyball nets. At these volleyball nets, you’ll always find people playing—and you can pretty much always join in.
A 2-minute walk from Hana Homestay, you’ll also find Bee Bike, a friendly adventure company offering gentle but adventurous bicycle tours around remote and rural parts of Da Nang and Hoi An. Joining one of these tours is an EXCELLENT way to make friends.
- Price per night average: around $12USD/£10 per night for a double room
- Address: No 84 Thạch Lam, Street, Sơn Trà, Đà Nẵng 550000, Vietnam
- Star rating: 4.7 – Google; 8.8 – Booking; 9.5 – Hostelworld

Insta: https://www.instagram.com/thebackpackerhostelandspa/
Best for: making many friends, finding things to do, and saving some money
Solo vibe
If you can’t make friends here, you can’t make friends anywhere.
Why stay here?
If you’re not the most sociable person in the world, it can be tough to make friends in a hotel.
… but even a slobbering troglodyte can find brand-new buddies in a hostel.
So, if you need that extra push, this is the perfect place for you: it’s sociable, they offer happy hours, they have regular day trips to Hoi An and beyond, and they serve up nightly events (including drinking games, board-game events, and dinners).
Other big perks include a bar, a rooftop terrace, friendly staff, free-to-rent bicycles, and the tiniest swimming pool you’ve ever seen.
What’s around?
Sadly, this isn’t the best location for exploring the city—you’re 2 miles (3.2km) from the very epicenter of the tourist action.
That said, The Backpacker Hostel and Spa offer free daily shuttles to and from the busiest parts of the city… so it’s VERY easy to explore Da Nang from here.
- Star ratings: 4.3 – Google; 8.5 – Booking; 8.7 – Hostelworld
- Price per night average: around $8 USD per person for a bed in a dorm room. Private options are around $16USD per room.
- Address: 27 Đ.Nguyễn Đình, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà, Đà Nẵng 550000, Vietnam

What’s the second best wine waiter? The option to go for when you want the comfort of knowing you’ve avoided bargain basement. Sleeper alert – this place is insanely well reviewed and great value too.
Golden Lotus Hotel Da Nang

Best for: one of the best buffet breakfasts you’ve ever munched on
Solo vibe
Normally, mid-range hotels are antisocial and relatively unfriendly.
But not here:
I stayed in the Golden Lotus Hotel for three days when I first moved to Da Nang, and all the other guests were smiley, sociable, and friendly.
Why stay here?

Hotels this affordable aren’t usually this good:
The staff are super accommodating, you get a free airport transfer, there’s a rooftop pool, the rooms are spacious and modern, the beds are super comfortable, and you get one of the best buffet breakfasts I’ve ever had.
What’s around?
Most of Da Nang’s tourists hang around in An Thượng (which isn’t actually a neighborhood of its own, but instead a collection of streets in the Mỹ An area).
Anyway, Golden Lotus Hotel is a 2-minute walk from this area—and it’s easy to make friends in the bars and cafes here. Top picks for chatting to strangers include Arcade Social Bar, Shamrock Sports Bar, and The Mad Den.
You’ll also find endless tour companies in the An Thượng area, offering trips to Hoi An, My Son, the Ba Na Hills, the Cham Islands, and more. And on these tours, it’s very easy to make friends.
Last of all, Hi4 Coffee & Workspace is also close to Golden Lotus Hotel. It’s not the most sociable place in the world, but LOTS of digital nomads hang out here (and it’s open 24/7).
- Price per night average: around $40 USD / £28-£30 per double room
- Address: 200 Trần Bạch Đằng, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn, Đà Nẵng 50000, Vietnam
- Star rating: 5 – Tripadvisor; 4.8 – Google; 9 – Booking (Impressive!)
Best luxury place to stay in Da Nang:
If you’re looking to splash out or travel Soho House style when in Da Nang, then this is the option for you. My top luxury accommodation pick for solo travellers in Da Nang.
Minh Toan SAFI Ocean Hotel

https://www.booking.com/hotel/vn/minh-toan-ocean.en-gb.html
Best for: staying in a fancy high-rise beside some very sociable hangouts
Solo vibe
Admittedly, this hotel isn’t the most sociable place in the world. But luxury hotels rarely are. Still, you might make friends offering to spot people in the gym.

Why stay here?
This is as luxurious as you’ll get without spending loads of money. Perks include bathtubs, big rooms, ocean views, loads of natural light, an excellent buffet breakfast, on-site apartments and penthouses, and a right-on-the-seaside location.

What’s around?
Right beside Minh Toan SAFI Ocean Hotel, you’ll find three excellent ways to socialise:
- East West Brewing (a craft beer spot) hosts busy and popular expat meetups on its rooftop, every Saturday evening.
- Tag running club (which I’m part of) meets outside Esco Beach Bar every Saturday morning.
- The nearby Lighthouse Coffee Roaster is one of the city’s most popular digital nomad work spots.
… and as a nice bonus, you’re right beside My Khe Beach, where you’ll find lots of foreigners, lots of busy sun loungers, and lots of small outdoor places to buy coffees and smoothies.
In short, this is an EXCELLENT location for making friends.
- Price per night average: around $55USD / £40 per double room (Seen as low as £33 on Agoda)
- Address: 224 Võ Nguyên Giáp, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà, Đà Nẵng 550000, Vietnam
- Star rating: 4.8 – Google; 4.9 – Tripadvisor; 8.7 – Booking
Best place to stay in Da Nang for digital nomads
For when you’re looking for somewhere comfortable to visit alone, but leaves you feeling able to carry on earning at the same time.
Bridges Danang Boutique Hotel

Best for: working, making friends, and working with your new friends
Solo vibe
A 25-room co-living and co-working space, Bridges Danang Boutique Hotel is specifically designed for making friends and building a little community.
Most people here are solo travellers (or couples) between the ages of 25 and 40.
So: if you’re a digital nomad, you’ll love it. But if you’re a backpacker, you’ll wonder why people aren’t drinking every day.
Why stay here?
This is one of the city’s best accommodations.
Perks include spacious rooms, an industrial aesthetic, many events, regular tours, excellent workspaces, rentable bicycles and scooters, and very attentive staff.
What’s around?
Like The Backpacker Hostel & Spa, Bridges Danang Boutique Hotel sits around 2 miles (3.2km) from the most tourist-heavy parts of the city.
… so it’s not Da Nang’s best location.
That said, there are still many perks of staying here:
- Around 1 mile (1.6km) away, there’s Esco Beach Bar, Lighthouse Coffee Roaster, and East West Brewing (all three of which we’ve already mentioned). They’re all great for socialising.
- It’s close to the massive 8-floor Enosta Space, a popular coworking & coliving venue, where you can make even more friends.
- Just over the other side of the river, there are a bunch of great non-touristy quiet cafes, ideal for getting some work done. I recommend Àla Cafe, WONDERLUST, and Cafeholic Coffee.
Overall, an excellent choice for finding friends, despite the less-than-ideal location.
- Price per night average: around $30USD for a double room
- Address: 4 Phước Trường 11, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà, Đà Nẵng 550000, Vietnam
